Standing In The Rain
My father recently crossed the threshold of death and came back. God spoke to him and sent him back. Since then, eternity has never felt like a distant concept to me. This song was written from a place of love, concern, and hope for the people around us. Every person you pass on the street is more than a face in the crowd. They are a soul that matters.
You see the headlines, I see broken souls
Running through the darkness, trying to fill the holes
Building up their kingdoms, watching them decay
Searching for tomorrow while throwing hope away
I don't hear the shouting the way the world believes
Beneath the pride and anger, I hear hearts that grieve
Every scar and failure, every hidden shame
People reaching for the light but never knowing His name
What I see is mercy standing in the rain
Calling through the sorrow, calling through the pain
What I see is Jesus with His arms still open wide
Waiting by the roadside while the lost keep passing by
What I see are children wandering far from home
Trying to carry burdens they were never meant to hold
And every tear reminds me why You came to set us free
That's what I see
Sometimes it breaks my spirit, sometimes I can't speak
Watching countless people search for strength while growing weak
And I would trade a thousand dreams, a thousand earthly things
Just to see one weary heart discover Heaven's King
Sometimes my heart feels weary, not able to even speak
When I see the lives so broken, while waiting at Jesus feet
But rising up within me, is the joy of love untold
Because I see those broken lives, have finally come on home
The cross a sign of mercy, love not weak but strong
It was raised for all the ones who knew that they were wrong
For the wounded and the hopeless, for the desperate and the blind
For every soul still searching, for every heart like mine
What I see is mercy standing in the rain
Calling through the sorrow, calling through the pain
What I see is Jesus with His arms still open wide
Waiting by the roadside while the lost keep passing by
And though the night is falling, hope is still alive
Love is still pursuing every heart tonight
Until the day we see Him, this prayer will always be
Lord, let them see what You have shown to me
